Most Time Sensitive! Brian Babin Urges Spending Pause Now In Continuing Resolution For Importing Refugees from Islamist Areas.

Republican U S Representative Brian Babin (Texas 36) again showed his vision last Thursday on reforming the refugee resettlement program.

Together with 37 of his colleagues he wrote the House leadership – – –

“We believe it is prudent and in the best interest of the American people that language be included in the upcoming FY 2017 Continuing Resolution to restore Congressional oversight and authority over the refugee program.  Specifically we would ask that you consider putting language in the continuing resolution that would:
1.      Prevent federal funds from being used to admit to the United States refugees from Syria, the Middle East and North Africa until the following conditions are met:
         a. Federal Immigration, law enforcement and national security agencies put in place processes to ensure that refugee and related programs are not able to be co-opted by would be terrorists;
         b. That such process and programs are provided to the Congress in both classified and public formats;
         c. That a longer-term monitoring process be put into place for those admitted to the U.S. as refugees; and
         d. That no federal funds may be used for refugee travel to the U.S. or any U.S. resettlement of refugees from this troubled region until Congress has passed by joint resolution a bill that specifically approves funding for such purposes.
2.      Permit U.S. funds to continue to be used to provide for the safety of refugees overseas, including housing, food and medical aid.” (Highlighting Forum’s)

We thank the 38 and urge them to follow up with a phone call to the House GOP leadership!

The Speaker, the Majority Leader, and the House Appropriations chair need to know that the signers are serious–not doing so merely as a constituent “courtesy” with no real expectation of action.

But wherever you are in this grand country —if your GOP member is not on this letter — ask your own Representative to call the House GOP leadership and urge them to follow Brian Babin’s recommendations.

Why is this matter “Most Time Sensitive”?

“Congress could have a continuing resolution to the President’s desk by the end of the week so long as it is not too loaded with policy riders distasteful to Democrats in both bodies who will be needed to assure passage. A restriction against increased resourcing to a Planned Parenthood affiliate in Puerto Rico may have been dropped over the weekend, clearing the way for Zika funding in a bill expected to be dropped this afternoon in the Senate ahead of a planned procedural vote. Last week, the White House sent over a $2.6 billion emergency funding request for flood recovery in Louisiana and the state’s congressional delegation are lobbying that resources to go out the door with the spending bill. Some Republicans are said to have demands in turn, such as halting admission of refugees from Syria where dangers have emanated since the rise of ISIS and its adherents have made trouble in Europe and elsewhere.” –fednet.net (Highlighting Forum’s)
