Loudoun HS Students Protest President’s “Foreign Terrorist” XO–They Are Entitled To Their Own Opinion But Not To A Lack Of Understanding Of Our Institutions And History

LoudounNow’s Danielle Nadler reports that last FridayHundreds of Loudoun Students ‘Walk Out’ in Support of Immigrants”–

“After watching the confusion and fear that followed President Donald Trump’s travel restrictions on refugees and travelers from seven Muslim-majority countries, Rida Ali felt the need to do something.
The 16-year-old Ashburn resident is a first generation American. Her mother is from Yemen and her father from Pakistan. She took to Twitter and suggested to a few of her friends that they plan a ‘walk out,’ to leave class for 10-15 minutes to make a statement about how empty the school—the nation, really—would be without immigrants or descendants of immigrants.
What she didn’t expect was that hundreds of students would join her on campuses throughout Loudoun County. ‘It spread so far,’ she said. ‘I had no idea that any other school was going to do this.’
Walk outs were reported this afternoon at least eight Loudoun County high schools. Four of the largest demonstrations took place at Briar Woods, Rock Ridge, Potomac Falls and Broad Run, where Ali is a junior. The school system reported that, in total, 619 students participated in the walk out.”

Loudoun County, Virginia may have the best high-school civics and US history classes available, and may indeed require every student to take them.  But for the sake of our discussion, let’s stipulate that their high-school civics and US history are top of the line.

Loudoun County, after all, “has been ranked first in the United States in median household income among jurisdictions with a population of 65,000 or more.”

Weighing The Merits Of An Issue Versus “Virtue Signaling”

The demonstrating students, however, seem to base their objections to the president’s Executive Order on vacuities–

“a statement about how empty the school—the nation, really—would be without immigrants or descendants of immigrants” or “America is more than ‘just white'”

But simply expressing solidarity with classmates through “virtue signaling” doesn’t make a case.

Perhaps parents and teachers could guide the demonstrators to fresh sources — enabling them to look deeper into some serious concerns about immigration policy and assimilation.

First, of course, one should read the full text of the Executive Order, including its fact-gathering provisions.  As we pointed out in an earlier story, Reports Required in Trump’s Refugee Executive Order Can Tell Americans “What’s Going On” With Our Immigrants & Visitors!

Here are six such expert voices —

“We need to move beyond the ‘are we targeting Muslims’ nonsense and get to the critical question: How do we embrace our Islamic friends while excluding our sharia-supremacist enemies?”
As McCarthy explained in an earlier story, “Of Course There Should be an Ideological Test in Immigration”–
You are not supposed to realize that aliens are expected to exhibit fidelity to this constitutional framework as a precondition to joining our society. You are not supposed to know that there is an Islamic law, sharia, that has far more to do with governance, economics, warfare, civil rights, domestic relations, criminal prosecution, and fashion than it does with spiritual life. And you are absolutely not supposed to grasp that sharia is antithetical to the Constitution, to the very foundational American principle that the people may make law for themselves, live as they see fit, and chart their own destiny. You are not supposed to connect the dots and ask, ‘Well, how is it conceivable that any sharia-adherent alien could faithfully pledge allegiance to our Constitution?’”
“Patriotic integration versus multicuturalism is a moral issue. America’s decision on how to integrate newcomers—through patriotic assimilation (traditional Americanization) or the contemporary approach of multiculturalism-group consciousness—is a moral issue that will define the character of our citizenship and our constitutional democracy.”
“A review of information compiled by a Senate committee in 2016 reveals that 72 individuals from the seven countries covered in President Trump’s vetting executive order have been convicted in terror cases since the 9/11 attacks.”
  • Then-senator, now Attorney General, Jeff Sessions told us in 2015 of the extent of immigration to the US–
“Immigration Adds 1 New Los Angeles Every 3 Years”
  • And finally scholar Stella Morabito warns parents and students Today’s Riot-Prone Mobs Are A Product Of America’s Cult-Like Education System !
“By high school too many are become dependent upon their overlords in the education establishment telling them what to say, what to believe, what to do: Go into the streets to protest Trump’s inauguration! . . . Get a degree in pseudo-studies. Don’t read classics (Eeewwww, dead white guys.)”

Free men and women, in our view, welcome robust debate among those with various perspectives.

Patriots should disdain servile “safe spaces.”

The sources we suggest may or may not change the demonstrators’ minds, but grappling with this material will enable them to frame their views as serious young citizens.
