Stop Obamacare:Lean On Blue Dogs and Jumpy Democrats
See WTVR Coverage of last Friday’s protests from Richmond Tea Party
Analysis and persuasion are important tools in blocking Obamacare — but the time is right now for taking our concerns directly to those Blue Dog Democrats who claim to be “appealing to the mainstream values of the American public.”
To that list, we might add some Democrats whose voters are likely not enamored of big, intrusive government. Maryland’s Dutch Ruppersberger is certainly a member of that select group of incumbents.
National Review on Line’s Rich Lowry explained here yesterday –
“Democrats are having a tough time of it on health care and Obama’s numbers are sinking, but they still have one enormous advantage, as E. J. Dionne reminds us today: raw power. No matter how incoherent the Democrats’ health-care program is or how unpersuasive they are in selling it, they still have a lot of votes to play with.”(Underscoring Forum’s.)
Last Friday saw what Michelle Malkin here termed a “Nationwide protest against socialized medicine & cap-and-tax.”
In Maryland over 100 civic-minded protestors met in front of Blue Dog Frank Kratovil’s district office in Centreville.
Here (scroll down) is a post on the event. The protest was organized by the Institute for Liberty which urged participants to “Tell Congressman Kratovil that we do not want government run health care.”
“We had a protest in Centreville, MD at Rep. Kratovil’s (D-MD) district office and his staff showed us the resepect we were due. The rain held off so our parade around the one block in town to Mr. Kratovil’s office was uneventful. The police kept us off the road bed even though the office was on a low traveled side street. That caused the group of 100+ to be compacted in the mid 80 degree and humid weather. The office manager came out and he was strongly engaged.
……
We are planning an August 11th protest at his Bel Air Office from 4-6 pm. I have picketed this office at the end of June and two groups are planning more routine picketing. We need to picket every working day and on Saturday utilizing the tactics of MLK. (Underscoring Forum’s.)

In Virginia, the Northern Virginia Tea Party here organized a protest against “Government-Run Health Care” at senator Jim Webb’s Arlington Office.
Here, here and here are accounts of planned or recent Virginia protests.
Virginia’s only Blue Dog is Glenn Nye. Of course, Representative Tom Perriello might be considered in the ‘jumpy’ category.
Preeminent Senate parliamentary expert, and second-amendment advocate Mike Hammond spells out here not only the concerns of gun-owners about Obamacare but also the urgency of acting right away.
This additional, May 16 link runs to a somewhat lengthy podcast with Mike Hammond sponsored by Gun Owners of America chief Larry Pratt — but a podcast which gives essential historical background to judge the current Senate Republican leadership on their response to the Obama Administration. At the conclusion, Hammond reveals how recent developments with veterans show that government health care means government control of your health records, and how this can be used to deny gun ownership. This month, Hammond asked rhetorically whether Obama is ‘too big to fail.’ He suggested that if Obamacare is stopped this summer, we shall have a much easier time blocking the rest of the Obama Agenda.
Maryland and Virginia conservatives must follow the examples set in Centreville, Maryland, and in Richmond and elsewhere in Virginia and keep organizing and protesting and leaning on Blue Dogs and insecure Democrats until we are out of danger on Obamacare.
