Another Swatting! But Who Else in the GOP ‘Will Keep the Bridge?’

Ten days ago in our Protecting Free Speech: Where Is the Other 64% of the House GOP? we wrote – –

“Last Monday June 11, freshman U.S. Representative Sandy Adams of Florida persuaded 86 of her colleagues to join her in a strong letter here to the Attorney General through which these members explained –

‘Differences of opinion should enrich our lives, not divide us. Each American has the right to freely express his or her ideas and should not be subject to fear tactics like SWAT-ting, which run counter to the liberty that forms the bedrock of our great nation. These crimes are not to be tolerated and necessitate thorough examination at every level.'”

The Other McCain (himself a Hagerstown, Maryland refugee from harassment for political speech) pointed us to Patterico’s report of late yesterday- –

“Aaron Walker Swatted. No joke. It happened around 6 p.m. Eastern. I briefly talked with one of the police officers at the scene, who confirmed that someone had called saying he had shot his wife, and sent officers to Aaron’s address.

I just got off the phone with Aaron and he and his wife are a little shaken up but OK. According to Aaron, the officers had machine guns but did not point them at Aaron. They were quickly able to determine it was a hoax.

Aaron plans to post about it later.”

What Happened Tonight

So anyone following along on twitter know the basics.  I was SWATted tonight.  My wife was down in the basement, and unknown to me she had fallen asleep in an uncomfortable position while watching TV.” . . . .

“I was writing when there was a knock at the door.  A second knock came and it was very insistent.  I went to the door and looked through the peep hole and there was nothing.  I said something like, ‘hello?’ and someone firmly said, ‘open the door!’

I opened up to find two cops hugging the front of the house.  They had M4’s as I recognized from video games (see?! They are good for something!) and they later confirmed.  They were not pointed at my face like it had been with Patrick.  They were pointed at the ground.

(When I told my mother that, she said not to minimize it.  No, obviously whoever it was doing their best to get me killed.  Fortunately the police were not so easily tricked.)

I can’t quote them, but they said something to the effect that they got an emergency call.  I actually said, ‘let me guess, someone claimed I shot my wife…?’  One officer confirmed it, and I said, ‘this is a hoax.’  I think I even said the word ‘swatting.’

So someone had tried to make law enforcement falsely think I committed a crime.”

Read the entire Walker post.

Last evening Representative Sandy Adams again jumped into the breach (Breitbart) in behalf of free political speech:

“Congresswoman Sandy Adams (R) FL-24 released a statement this evening in response to today’s swatting of blogger Aaron Walker:

‘With the increase in these dangerous incidents, it is clear that our citizens and law enforcement officers are at risk. I hope Attorney General Holder seriously considers the letter my colleagues and I sent him asking the Department of Justice to investigate these incidents and prosecute the perpetrators to the fullest extent of the law.’”

We are still waiting for many more GOP House members to add their experience and clout (to the current 87 GOP House members who have already taken a stand) in this ongoing struggle for free political speech.

As Horatius famously said – – “Now who will stand on either hand, And keep the bridge with me?”

Readers may wish to invite their GOP friends in the House — who have yet to take a stand — to do so now.
