UPDATES–
  • MAY 26! Conservative activist Ed Hunter snaps photo (click here) yesterday of Turkish center under construction in Lanham.

The MuslimLink last week announced

“’A Symbol of Friendship’ : Turkish PM Lays Stone for $100M Masjid Complex In Maryland” (click here).

(Thanks to the ever-vigilant Ann Corcoran for the heads-up!)

Here are excerpts from their post:

  • “On Wednesday, May 15, 2013, Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan placed a ceremonial stone on a 15-acre construction site in Lanham, Maryland that will likely become the largest and most striking examples of Islamic architecture in the western hemisphere.”
  • “The Turkish American Culture and Civilization Center (TACC) is a project of the government of Turkey and is meant to ’serve as a social, cultural, and religious  center for all visitors, including activities for the promotion and introduction of the values of the Turkish Civilization’ according to an information packet distributed by TACC at the invitation only ground breaking ceremony.”
  • “…[T]here were a few dozen non-Turkish representatives of area masajid and Islamic organizations from the DMV area present, including ISNA President Mohammad Magid and ICNA President Naeem Baig.”
  • “Maryland’s Secretary of State John McDonough delivered greetings from Governor Martin O’Malley and talked about the sister city relationships between Turkey and Maryland.”

But, as  former Federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy (PJMedia) had explained last September–

“The Wall Street Journal reports that, with respect to the anti-American rioting, Obama has sought help from his good friend Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Islamist prime minister of Turkey. As [McCarthy's book ] Spring Fever recounts, Erdogan denies there is any such thing as ‘moderate Islam’ (he says such a suggestion is an insult to Muslims), and he regards efforts to get Muslims to assimilate in Western societies as ‘a crime against humanity.’ According to a report in the Turkish press today, Erdogan also says ‘Islamophobia’ should also be prosecuted as a ‘crime against humanity,’ and in that regard, he plans to speak out against the video when he appears at the UN General Assembly meeting later this month. Exactly what kind of help Obama expects to get from Erdogan is unclear.”

UPDATED! The Intense Outreach of Agents of Turkish Islamist Influence

where we reported –

  • A Maryland state lawmaker talked up to Delaware legislators (click here and here) her travel in Turkey (also click here): “Having visited Turkey in December 2010, Delegate [Gail] Bates spoke very highly of her experience in Turkey and invited all the members of the House to visit Turkey with the trips organized by TAA. [Turkic American Alliance]. Ms. Bates said ‘I had the opportunity this year [2011] to go on a trip to Turkey. This incredibly well planned trip was a very exciting opportunity and such a good experience for myself. One of my goals on the trip was to focus on topics that unite us rather than divide us. As a practicing Christian, going to a Muslim country helped me to begin to see the commonalities we have and the things that we share.’”
  • Islamist Turkey and American Indian Tribes
“Congress finds that — the public and private sectors in the Republic of Turkey have demonstrated a unique interest in bolstering cultural, political, and economic relationships with Indian tribes and tribal members. . . .” pending H.R. 2362. (Highlighting Forum’s.)
On September 30, Marc J. Fink (PJMedia) in his Stunner: Turkey Infiltrating Native American Tribes — and May Get Congressional Help reported–
“Congressman [Tom ] Cole [link supplied] freely admitted the following on the House floor:
‘There’s no question that I was approached by the Turkish American Coalition (properly the Turkish Coalition of America), who have a deep interest in Turkey and American Indians.’
‘Deep interest’ indeed. The bill was the culmination of a multi-year effort by Turkey to ingratiate itself with Native American tribes: tribal students now study in Turkey with full scholarships; Turkish officials regularly appear at Native American economic summits; and dozens of tribal leaders have gone to Turkey on lavish all-expense-paid trips.
Why the intense interest in business and cultural ties with Native American tribes now, when Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Islamist Justice and Development party (AKP) have taken Turkey down a path of aggressive and dangerous Islamism?”

Any reason willful blindness toward Islamists won’t continue to be bi-partisan (click here and here)?

Perhaps the TACC elders will try to get senior Republican Tom Cole to bless their enterprise, or even invite Maryland’s senior Republican delegate Gail Bates of that state’s General Assembly, to complement the endorsement of the Maryland secretary of state. After all, Gail Bates and John McDonough went on sponsored trips to Turkey (click here).
